The project features two industrial scale paintings, created in two very different dramatic and inspiring sites. One double sided painting floats high on Llyn Llydaw lake; dwarfed by Mount Snowdon&#039;s grandeur and flickering in the wind. The other rests low, deep beneath the mountains in an abandoned slate mining cavern at Llechwedd. Each work relates materially to the heritage of it&#039;s location and is continually evolving in relation to the elements around it. The floating Llyn Llydaw piece blooms and oxidises as the copper and iron mixed with the paint are torn by wind, rain and the waters of the lake. Deep in Llechwedd slate caverns below Blaenau Ffestiniogg another paintings rusts, as iron and slate bleed through it&#039;s composition; adapting to the damp darkness like countless miners before it.\n\nHow we consume landscape, what it means to our heritage and how we look at it are all questions these works raise. The film, like the paintings themselves, was made in the landscape and out of the labour of the many good people who contributed to Uchel ac Isel. It is a celebration of their labour and a homage to lives lived and lost amid the unforgiving glory of Snowdonia. The original bell was recovered from the wreck of the Royal Charter. This bell rings throughout the performance.\n\nThis film has been made from two performances of a unique musical composition, generated by data collected from the wind driven movements of the art installation over a 60 day period. The same 60 day period that The Royal Charter had spent sailing from Melbourne to its tragic end 160yrs previously. The wind powered the ships journey, its tragic end and this project\u2019s acts of commemoration.\n\nOne performance was recorded at the site of the installation, just north of Moelfre, the second at St Gallgos church. Both performances took place on October 26th 2019. Many of the injured were cared for at St Gallgos. Many of the dead were laid to rest within its graveyard.\n\nThe Royal Charter Storm left a trail of devastation from Cornwall to Scotland. 133 ships were sunk, 90 were badly damaged and over 800 human lives were lost.  The greatest loss of life occurred on the shores of Anglesey, over 450 lives were lost when the Royal Charter steam clipper was driven ashore near Moelfre by Force 12 hurricane winds. Among the dead were residents of Moelfre who had attempted to save passengers from the stricken ship. \n\nIt is in all of their honour that voices and strings scored in cycles of wind sing
